Term 1 and 2 Performance Program Update

A busy start to the year has yielded big success stories for Tennis Excellence tennis players both on and off the tennis court and kickstarted 2017 off in a positive way.

Firstly, senior TE player Austin Vos is in his last term with Blue Gum before he departs Perth to begin his American College career. From all of us at TE a huge congratulations Austin on earning a scholarship for your tennis and have a great time studying at Mississippi Gulf Coast University. I am sure we will still see Austin when he is back on summer/winter breaks and will let you know how he is getting on. Many thanks for all your hard work towards our programs.

Back on court but over East in Melbourne and Mornington, three TE players travelled to compete in 2 ITF Junior World Ranking tournaments; the first trip of this kind from TE and one with many positives. Lexie Weir won 6 out of 8 singles matches on the clay in 2 weeks and picked up her first world ranking of 1639, narrowly losing out to world no. 346 7-6 6-4 in Mornington. Maddy Muller-Hughes also picked up her first world ranking (2182) by making the Quarter-Finals of doubles partnering ACT’s Tallulah Farrow. Tara Gilich made the main draw of singles and second round of doubles with Lexie in Mornington. A very successful trip, huge congratulations girls and please log onto http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/players/player-search.aspx to have a look at results from our players and their world rankings.

Over the Perth holidays 4 tournaments were on offer; North Beach Classic, Brixton Open, Gold Slam JT and Hensman Park AR.

Grass Court Nationals – Berri, SA:

Nationals are held 3 times a year in Australia with 1 Grass court, 1 Clay court and the final Australian Nationals Championships held in December at the “December Showdown.” For the Grass and Clay Courts, only the top 19 players in the 12 and Under and 14 and Under age groups are invited to play with a further 2 wildcards awarded to each State. In April Lily Fairclough was selected by Tennis Australia to participate in the 12 and Under Girls event and did herself proud by finishing in 26th and collecting 2 wins at her first National event a year younger than most players. Lily really made the most of the experience training every day with Coach James and Mum Sue who also made the trip over. Congratulations to TE Nedlands player Sam English who had a great run through to the Quarter-Finals of the 12 and Under Boys Singles accompanied by Nedlands Director Warren Vickers.

Due to our high standards of training and growing reputation our Performance Program Squads continue to flourish and grow. Many thanks to all parents and players for endorsing our programs and it is to you who we owe our gratitude and success for committing to our shared values day in day out. Congratulations to Sam Hesp and Zachary Ong for their transition up to High Performance squad and also to Jay and Lily Fairclough for their transition up to TEPA squad. For the athletes currently in “transition mode” keep working hard and full transition will soon be achieved!

Many thanks to everyone for a great start to the year,
